Introducing OOG

The Oxford Oxfam Group (OOG) is a long-established local volunteer group supporting Oxfam’s work overcoming poverty and suffering around the world. We have about sixty members and a varied programme of events, which include:
  • Campaigns to raise the profile of vital issues, such as fair trade, debt relief, and education. Help promoting these campaigns is always welcome!!
  • Fundraising: Members undertake many activities, from collecting pennies in a jar to holding stalls at local Fairs, raising over £15,000 a year to support Oxfam’s work. We are always open to fundraising suggestions, so if you fancy a sponsored tug-o-war, firewalk or something even more crazy, please let us know!
  • Members’ evenings: informal meetings, usually combining a short presentation from an invited speaker with an opportunity to socialise.

One World Fair

This is one of our largest events, held in Oxford Town Hall every November. Oxford’s Fairtrade, development and environmental organisations are invited to hold stalls publicising their activities and selling fairly traded goods. We also run a vegetarian cafĂ© throughout the day, usually with live Jazz music.

Book Fairs

Our highly successful Book Fairs are held twice a year, in the Spring and Autumn at the Wesley Memorial Hall. Each Fair raises between £2,000 and £3,000. Members are always needed to help on the day and in the weeks before the event with book pricing and behind-the-scenes organisation.

Sponsored walk

Every two years, OOG members trundle, march or pub-crawl their way through various fields and streets around Oxford. As well as enjoying ourselves thoroughly, the main aim is to raise funds for Oxfam.

Street Collections

Our members organise these several times a year to raise funds for Oxfam’s development work or in response to a specific emergency.
